Demco's 31K UMS fifth wheel drops into factory pucks for big diesel duallies hauling heavy fivers. It's a solid fixed head with no-tools removal, but the dual-jaw lock isn't as buttery in articulation as the premium brands and you'll feel a touch more chucking.
About This Product
The Reese UMS 31K is built for serious weight. Thirty-one thousand pounds of towing capacity puts this at the top of the residential fifth wheel hitch market. If you have a massive toy hauler, a triple-axle fifth wheel, or anything else that pushes the limits, this is designed to handle it.
UMS stands for Universal Mounting System - Reese designed this to work across multiple truck brands and bed configurations. For Ford trucks with factory pucks, it drops in like other puck-mount hitches. The installation flexibility is a plus if you change trucks or want to move the hitch between vehicles.
At this weight rating, everything is beefed up. Heavier construction, larger pivot points, thicker jaws. The tradeoff is more weight in the hitch itself and typically a higher price. But if your trailer actually needs this capacity, there is no point buying something rated lower and worrying about it.
The head articulates for smooth coupling and the jaws lock around the kingpin solid. Reese has been in the towing business forever and their engineering reflects decades of experience. Good warranty support and parts availability.
Make sure you actually need 31K before buying this. Most fifth wheels on the road are well under 20K. But if you are pulling something heavy and want zero doubt about your hitch capacity, this is overkill in the best way.
