The Reese Autoslide 21K combines their 21,000-pound hitch with an automatic sliding system. Short bed truck owners get the cab clearance they need without having to manually slide the hitch before tight turns. The hitch responds to turning forces and slides back when clearance is needed, then returns forward when you straighten out.

This solves the biggest headache of towing a fifth wheel with a short bed truck. With a fixed hitch, you constantly think about how tight you can turn without the trailer hitting your cab. With the Autoslide, you drive more naturally and let the hitch handle the geometry.

Twenty-one thousand pounds of capacity covers most fifth wheels with room to spare. The automatic sliding mechanism adds complexity and cost compared to a fixed hitch, but for short bed owners, the convenience is worth it. No stopping to get out and pull pins, no forgetting to slide the hitch and hearing that crunch.

Installation is more involved than a fixed hitch - the sliding mechanism has more parts and requires careful setup. Many people have shops do the install, though experienced DIYers can handle it. Once installed, maintenance is minimal - just occasional lubrication.

For Ford Super Duty short bed trucks with factory puck prep. If you have a long bed, you do not need a slider and should save the money. But for short beds towing fifth wheels, automatic sliding is the ultimate convenience feature.
