GM/Chevy Puck System
Factory fifth wheel prep on Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra HD trucks.
What is GM's Puck System?
GM's factory fifth wheel/gooseneck prep package installs mounting points in your truck bed that accept drop-in hitches. Same concept as Ford and Ram — easy installation, no drilling, clean bed when not towing.
Which GM Trucks Have It?
HD models with the prep package
Chevrolet
- • Silverado 2500HD
- • Silverado 3500HD
GMC
- • Sierra 2500HD
- • Sierra 3500HD
Important
The puck system is an optional package. Not all HD trucks have it. Check your truck before ordering a puck-mount hitch.
What's It Called?
Look for these on the window sticker
- • Fifth Wheel/Gooseneck Prep Package
- • Gooseneck/Fifth Wheel Hitch Platform
- • Hitch Platform (with bed provisions)
GM's package often includes the prep provisions plus an actual hitch or ball. Check what's included — you might already have hardware.
How to Identify GM Pucks
Visual check
Look in the front half of your truck bed for the mounting points.
GM Puck Layout:
- • Four pucks arranged in a rectangle
- • May have covers or be recessed
- • Located toward front of bed
- • Some years also have a center gooseneck provision
GM's pattern is similar to but not identical to Ford's. Most aftermarket hitches fit both, but verify compatibility for your specific year.
